8. Critical Thinking Solo: Perspectives and snapshots (5:26)

The many, many sides to a story

It’s hard not to be impressed by the insanely talented people who dance, sing, pull off stunts, shoot cool videos and photos (TikTok, Reels, Snap, Insta and more). Many of these creators may be just friends, or some might be influencers or celebrities. But we know very little about them. We only see their ‘public’ life. Being human has its highs and lowsu00a0every single day. We just don’t see that as much.u00a0

Devices and social platforms aren’t going away, so enjoy the amazing , powerful, creative, funny, inspirational content, but don’t be impressed by snapshots. They’re an image of a moment, not a life.

9. Critical Thinking Solo: Choices (2:30)

Is influence a good thing?

If there was one thing that might be important in life, apart from our family or health, it would probably be the control over the life we want to live. If you have choices, and have the courage to make those choices, where will that take you? Probably to wherever you want to go…!

But if you are easily led – if you’re a follower – where will take that you, to someone else’s destination? These choices aren’t easy, there are many of them in every single day, so it’s important to start noticing them. And own them. They’re yours, after all.

7. Critical Thinking Solo: It’s not easy. Heres’ why. (29:06)

1.2.3 Solo Program intro: Why are you here? (2:51)

A lesson about social media and gaming. What?

Hey there, people. Yes, we normally get students who wonder what any digital educator could possibly teach them about life online. But the reality is, and you will have seen it yourselves when things have gone horribly wrong for other people on social media…that life online can get ugly. Real fast.

So, your school decided to engage us, MySociaLife. We teach thousands and thousands of students every year, but we also teach parents and teachers every year. So we hear how crazy it can get in schools, in classrooms and in homes. In fact, we even hear from psychologists.u00a0

So what might we share that you don’t already know…?

4. Critical Thinking Solo: What is that? (7:37)

What are you thinking? HOW are you thinking?

Schools teach critical thinking. But do they teach it with respect to the digital world you live in? So what is critical thinking online, exactly?  And how skilled are you in this area? Most adults think they know a lot until they realise just how narrow their view is, or how much other information they need to consider.

5. Critical Thinking Solo: Ask. Interrogate. Investigate. (8:32)

How much can you see if some things are invisible?

Our brain is always thinking because it naturally seeks to evaluate options. We do this in a number of areas, and yet with media we consume feeds, images and videos more u201cautomaticallyu201d. So what questions would be useful to assess the validity of the things we read, hear and watch online?

6. Critical Thinking Solo: Followers, Catfish and Predators (6:44)

Who do we 'allow in' to our world?

Almost every teen knows about catfishing, the art of faking a profile to trick someone, but do they understand the steps that are commonly taken by predators or jokers to try and build your trust. With the simple click of a ‘follow’ or ‘friend’ button, we open a door to communication. But with whom? Can we be sure we know who these people are?u00a0
